Volunteering. It takes a Sangha!

Giving of your time and talent.

Picture
Dharma Refuge has a variety of volunteer opportunities which we invite you to experience as a way to cultivate your own personal practice and support the practice of others.

An invitation letter from our vice-president, Bob Brown

Dear Sangha Members and Friends,

As you may know, Dharma Refuge has been experiencing a renaissance since moving into our new home at Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School on S. Goodman Street in April.  This renaissance has been fed by new energy and commitment on the part of everyone from teachers to Board members to the Sangha at large. The practice sessions and events are becoming more numerous and better attended than ever before. And with our local teacher, Sue Kochan, now retired from business, and Elizabeth Namgyel, our visiting teacher from Colorado, enthusiastically engaged in helping her, we are truly on a roll for rolling out the Dharma in terms of more and new opportunities to practice and to learn the Buddha’s teachings and bring them into our lives.

So, with all of this new activity and the demands of managing our new and beautiful space, Dharma Refuge invites you to do these two vital things:

  1. Come to practice and teachings. Show up and lend your awareness, energy, and heart to practice sessions and other events as you are able.
  2. Offer a little of your time and energy as a volunteer to help turn the wheel of the Dharma. There are many tasks to be done, and in the past they have fallen on too few shoulders. But when the load is shared amongst many, it isn’t a load any more, but a pleasure and a joy. And in this way, as a volunteer, you will get back whatever energy and love you put in, with generous interest.  What a deal!  Consider this need and this invitation; think about what help you might offer.  It doesn’t have to involve a lot time, only as much as you feel comfortable giving.  There are many and varied things that need doing.  Please think and feel about this, and let us know.  Sooner is better.  Then we can talk about your skills, preferences, and limitations, and see where you might fit in. In the tradition this is called Karma Yoga; it’s just helping your Sangha.  Please email Bob Brown.

Thank you, and blessings.
Bob & the rest of the Dharma Refuge Board of Directors
