Dear Dharma Friends,
We have some exciting Dharma Center news! After three nourishing years of tenancy on the beautiful campus of Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School we have relocated our Dharma Center. The move was in response to the relocation of the school and their pending sale of the campus as well as our need to accommodate continued growth at Dharma Refuge. We conducted an exhaustive search over the last two years carefully considering many different properties and our commitment to remain an urban Dharma Center, supporting the well-being of our members and serving the larger Rochester community we call home. At long last, we signed an agreement with Covenant United Methodist Church, located at 1124 Culver Rd. (Rochester, NY 14609). We feel excited, blessed and so warmly welcomed by Pastor Ann Kempor and her community. It’s clear to all who have been involved in this process that we have found a new home grounded in friendship, partnership, shared values and community service. About our new home Our new center is located in two rooms and a small office on the second floor of the church and is fully accessible by elevator and stairs. The room we now use exclusively as our temple is approximately the size of our former center and it has a large adjoining room we now have available for meetings, hospitality and socializing. The church has a well-lit parking lot at the back where the rear entry and elevator access is located, as well as parking lot space available close by and on the street. The church went to work getting the space ready for us, painting all the walls and laying new carpet. Our many teams of volunteers packed and moved and unpacked and set up everything in only a week's time! We have officially moved out of Colgate Rochester and now are situated in our two new rooms. Opening day is May 11, Saturday with an All-Day Silent Meditation Retreat. If you have questions, you are welcome to contact any of us on the Board at Dharma Refuge. Gratitude We can't share this announcement without extending our appreciation to Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School. They have been kind partners and landlords for three years. We also want to bow deeply to all who have contributed to our search and this decision. Many in the sangha have joined us for building tours and offered ideas and suggestions. Ultimately Kathryn Fiske connected us with Covenant United Methodist! David and Marsha King and Bob Brown have invested countless hours in assessing space options and leases for the better part of two years. Eh Ma Ho to all! (How wondrous it is!)
